Glitter Made from Salt

If you've seen my post on how to make glitter keys, and love the concept, but don't really love the idea of going out and getting glitter, then just make your own from salt and food coloring!  I saw this recipe for salt glitter on PreschoolDoll Designs blog, and I can tell you now, it does work.  Last Christmas, my mom and I were making some decorations, and came across this recipe, and were amazed by it.  It's not as 'glittery' as what you can find in the store, but still has a nice little shimmer to it, and provides you the opportunity to make whatever color you want!

Materials

  • 1/4 cup salt
  • Food coloring
  • Microwave safe bowl
Instructions
  • Put the salt in a microwave safe bowl, and mix in the food coloring so that the color is uniform, and just the way you like it.  Make sure to stir the salt well to avoid clumps.
  • Put this little mixture in the microwave for 1 minute, and stir again to make sure there are no clumps.
  • You're done!  Now you can put this nice, pearly glitter on whatever you feel like!
