Strawberry Floppy Hat





I absolutely love floppy hats.  I think they are adorable, and even though it's spring, it's still a little chilly out, so there is a legitimate reason to be wearing them, as well!  I've been wearing this particular hat quite a bit recently, and decided that I might as well write up the pattern and share it with you guys!  Hope you enjoy!





Materials
  • 1 skein Caron Simply Soft in Plum Wine
  • 2 #8 circular needles (or size needed to obtain guage)
  • Cable needle
  • Yarn sewing needle
Guage

    26 sts and 26 rows = 4" over pattern using size 8 needles.

Stitch Glossary

    CB4: sl 2 sts to cn and hold to back, k2, then k2 from cn.
    CF4: sl 2 sts to cn and hold to front, k2, then k2 from cn.

    POP:
         Row 1: inc1, k1, inc1, k1, inc1, turn.
         Row 2: p5, turn.
         Row 3: k5, turn.
         Row 4: p5, turn.
         Row 5: k2tog, k3tog.

Instructions


Hat

Cast on 88 sts and divide between 2 circular needles (44 on one, 44 on the other).  Join round.
Rounds 1-10: Work k1, p1 ribbing around.
Round 11: k around, increasing 38 sts evenly.
Round 12: [k12, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1] 6 times.
Round 13 (and all odd numbered rounds): repeat round 12.
Round 14: [k2, CB4, CF4, k2, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1] 6 times.
Round 16: [CB4, k1, POP, k1, CF4, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1] 6 times.
Round 18: repeat round 12.
Round 20: [k5, POP, k5, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1] 6 times.
Round 22: repeat round 12.
Round 24: [CF4, k1, POP, k1, CB4, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1] 6 times.
Round 26: [k2, CF4, CB4, k2, (p1, k1) 3 times, p1] 6 times.
Repeat rounds 13-26 2 more times, then repeat rounds 13-17 one more time.


Crown


Round 1: [k12, p2tog, (p1, k1) 2 times, p1, p2tog] 6 times.
Round 2: [k12, p1, (p1, k1) 2 times, p2] 6 times.
Round 3: [k5, POP, k5, p2tog, k1, p1, k1, p2tog] 6 times.
Round 4: [k12, (p1, k1) 2 times, p1] 6 times.
Round 5: [k12, p2tog, p1, p2tog] 6 times.
Round 6: [k12, p3] 6 times.
Round 7: [CF4, k1, POP, k1, CB4, p3tog] 6 times.
Round 8: [k12, p1] 6 times.
Round 9: [k2tog, CF4, CB4, k2tog, p1] 6 times.
Rounds 10-12: k2tog around.
Cut yarn, leaving a 12" tail, and using a yarn needle, slip the remaining stitches onto the yarn, pulling tightly to finish the crown of the hat.  Finally, weave in all the ends, and you're done!
